Cabin Hideaway

I posted this same pic over at pbase but I liked the details in it so much I'm posting it here as well. This cabin is the kind of place where you would want to go to be alone or just to be away from the noise of society. The waterfalls is a soothing sound that can lull you into a state of denial that anything else really matters. I'll be posting more photos from there as I get time.

Sunset Last Night

I love shooting this Nikon lens wide open and tonite was the first nice sunset to try it on. The focus was horrible and you can see that in the trees on the left side. Shooting hand held is the reason, even with image stabilization its hard for me to manually fix on an item and then adjust the focus till things are good. Well, at least thats my excuse :)

I did get to chase some small songbirds around last nite through some swamps but no pics that I feel good about posting here. My other bird photos can be seen at www.pbase.com/twdarby for those that might be interested. I'm trying to Twitter about photography a little more often as well. So if your into Twitter feel free to follow me by going to http://twitter.com/tomdarby

Spring Time in Hogback

Not quite the name that conjures up romance and flowers but it was Hogback Run where I took this photo of what I think is called the Giant Phlox. Things are starting to bloom now with the warmer weather and rain, the smells of flowers was amazing as I tried to find some interesting things to photograph.

Pine Hollow Run

Seems there must be a thousand Pine Hollows in this part of the state. But todays photo is from one in Hermitage, PA which if you've ever been here you might be surprised there are places that look like this. Shot this again with the Nikon lens on the Canon body. You may want to check out my photo on Pbaseof Leesburg Falls that I took last night with the same setup.

Back In Time Fridays

I've decided that on Fridays I'm going to attempt to post an image from previous years work. An old image that I just edited to use for this blog or something that I think might be good for exhibits and art shows. I remember reading that Ansel Adams would go back to negatives 20 years later and reprint and reinterpret them. I'm certainly not an Ansel Adams by any means and I don't have digital files from 20 years ago either. But I find that relooking at files from images taken just several years ago I see different things in them that I want to bring out. In addition the editing power of tools like Photoshop and Lightroom add to that capability.

I hope you enjoy the image today it was shot on Marthas Vineyard in 2006 and is of Quitsah Harbor.

Growing Greener

Everything is green these days, well at least if you listen to all the commercials on television and radio. Even the president wants to promote green technology and green energy. So this is my contribution to the green cause today. hope you enjoy, it was taken with the Nikon 14-24 again.

Dandelion Fields Forever

Took the Nikon lens out for another spin today to see how the dandelions look up close. Amazed at the sharpness from this lens even up close.

Feeling Patriotic

Stopped at Hilcrest Memorial Park this morning and took some photos with the Nikon 14-24 lens on the Canon 1DsMk3. Good thing I got the photos when I did since the rain and clouds moved in later in the day. I finished getting my prints framed late last night for the art exhibit in Oil City at the Transit Fine Art Gallery. The exhibit starts today and will continue through the month of May. Please stop by and check out all the fine art at the gallery when you can.
